August is National Wellness Month, a time dedicated to cultivating self-care, managing stress, and nurturing healthy routines. While we firmly believe that wellness shouldn’t be boxed into a single month, it’s a good reminder of the importance of maintaining our overall wellbeing.
So, how can we empower employees to take this time to focus on their own wellbeing? Here are some tactics we have learned from our Motion Connected clients over the years.
1. Foster Inspiration Over Explanation
Instead of bombarding employees with education, sprinkle quotes, concise wellness facts, and success stories throughout the workplace to keep motivation high.
2. Avoid Mandatory or Required Initiatives
Imposing a forced program reduces enthusiasm and motivation. While eliminating the required aspect may decrease overall participation, it will lead to more sustained outcomes, less cheating, and increased satisfaction with the program.+
3. Offer Choices
Allowing employees to engage with wellness in the ways that resonate most with them will lead to more intrinsic motivation and consistency.
4. Create Opportunities for Personal Success
Design activities and programs that employees can complete in a reasonable timeframe to foster a sense of accomplishment. “Success breeds success” Winston Churchill
5. Recognize and Celebrate Those Achievements
Doing so can help establish habits that lead to consistent practice of wellness.
Here’s to embracing National Wellness Month and nurturing wellness in our workplaces—not just for August but throughout the year.
