The Elements of Health Framework with man holding a heart

Introducing the Elements of Health: A New Employee Wellbeing Framework

For years, organizations have invested in employee wellbeing with the goal of helping people live healthier, happier lives. From walking challenges and nutrition campaigns to financial education and mental health resources, employers have more tools available than ever before.

But one question continued to guide our team as we planned for the future:

Are we helping employers build a complete picture of health?

At Motion Connected, we believe employee wellbeing isn’t made up of isolated initiatives. Health is influenced by many interconnected factors that shape how people feel, work, and live every day.

That belief led us to create the Motion Connected Elements of Health. Our new framework that will guide every challenge, course, campaign, and educational resource we develop in 2027 and beyond.

The Building Blocks of Employee Health

Just as the periodic table organizes the building blocks of our physical world, the Elements of Health organize the building blocks of employee wellbeing.

Rather than thinking about wellness as a collection of separate programs, we’ve identified six essential elements that together create a more complete approach to supporting employees.

Elements of Health Framework

⚡ Physical (Energy)

Movement, sleep, physical activity, and healthy daily habits that help employees feel energized, improve productivity, and perform at their best.

🍎 Nutrition (Fuel)

Healthy eating, hydration, and practical nutrition education that fuels both body and mind while supporting long-term health.

💰 Financial (Security)

Financial wellbeing is a critical part of overall employee health. Resources focused on budgeting, saving, debt management, retirement planning, and financial decision-making help reduce one of the most common sources of workplace stress.

🧠 Emotional (Mind)

Mental and emotional wellbeing includes stress management, resilience, mindfulness, emotional awareness, and strategies that help employees thrive both personally and professionally.

🤝 Connection (Purpose)

Strong relationships, belonging, recognition, teamwork, and community help create healthier workplace cultures and increase employee engagement.

🛡 Care (Healthcare Confidence)

One of the most distinctive parts of our employee wellbeing framework is Care, which focuses on helping employees confidently navigate today’s healthcare system.

This includes:

  1. Healthcare literacy
  2. Benefits education
  3. Preventive care
  4. Choosing the right level of care
  5. Understanding health insurance
  6. Making informed healthcare decisions

Organizations invest significant resources into employee benefits, yet many employees struggle to fully understand or use them. We believe healthcare confidence is an essential part of employee wellbeing—and one that deserves a place alongside more traditional wellness topics.

Why This Matters

No two employees have the same needs.

One employee may be focused on improving their physical health.

Another may be caring for their mental wellbeing.

Someone else may simply need help understanding their health insurance or making smarter healthcare decisions.

A truly effective wellbeing strategy recognizes that health isn’t one-dimensional. It’s the combination of many different elements working together over time.

By organizing our programming around these six elements, we’re creating a more balanced experience that helps employers support the whole person—not just individual health topics.

It also gives organizations confidence that, over the course of a year, they’re addressing every important dimension of employee wellbeing rather than unintentionally overemphasizing one area while overlooking another.

A Framework That Shapes Everything We Create

The Elements of Health are the foundation behind every piece of content we develop.

Whether it’s a step challenge, educational course, awareness campaign, printable resource, or engagement activity, every experience is intentionally designed to strengthen one or more of these elements.

This framework also helps employers visualize the breadth of their wellbeing strategy, making it easier to create programming that’s balanced, engaging, and meaningful throughout the year.

Looking Ahead

Over the coming months, we’ll be exploring each Element of Health in greater depth—sharing practical ideas, educational resources, and real-world examples of how organizations can strengthen every dimension of employee wellbeing.

Because healthier workplaces aren’t created through a single initiative.

They’re built one element at a time.
